The studio at Broomhill was a large single-storey extension built in the thirties.   It was the creative hub of the house with McNairn's painting and drawing materials, his collection of work, and a grand piano - first a Bechstein then later an Obermeier - McNairn was a gifted jazz pianist.   Also in the studio was the painting Anne Redpath gave John and Stella as a wedding present and an Anne Redpath painted cabinet - another gift from the artist who was a family friend and an admirer of McNairn's work.
